A fun throwing game to discover

Gabaky has become one of France's most popular throwing games at meetings and birthday parties. It's an all-round game of skill that can be played both indoors and outdoors.

Easy to play, this game is based on three disciplines: pétanque, curling and Palet Breton.

Want to find out more about this game, what the rules are and how to play Gabaky like a real pro? Read on, and once you've done, this throwing game will hold no secrets for you.

1. A fun game of skill

2. How do I play this throwing game?

If you like to play pétanque, you'll certainly enjoy Gabaky. It's a game with virtually the same rules.

What makes this game everyone's favourite is that the rules are really easy to apply. All you have to do is throw the balls at the target. To score a point, you need to make sure they're on the board and closer to the target.

This game requires two teams, which can be made up of two or three people. However, this does not preclude one-to-one play.

Once the team has been formed, all that's left to do is choose the colour of the ball and start throwing. The balls are allocated according to the number of people in each team. For a duel game, 8 balls are used, with 4 balls each; for a double game, each person in a team receives 2 balls.

Throws must be made behind a line on the ground 4 metres from the target. The first ball must be placed as close as possible to the target to score a point. The opposing team tries to do better to get ahead of the other team.

If a team has run out of balls and has not had the opportunity to regain the lead, the other team continues to play accurately until it has run out of balls.

The team that manages to score 13 points first wins the game and a second round can begin.

A family game of Gabaky will put an end to boredom and make Sunday afternoons a time for getting together. So set up your living room or garden to play this fun throwing game.

4. Our tips for improving your marksmanship

If you've read this far, you're probably a future fan of the game. That's why we've put together a few tips to help you become a real throwing expert.

First of all, find your balance when shooting or aiming. Make sure that your weight is distributed over the whole of your foot so that you are stable. You can try out several positions before shooting to find the one that suits you best.

Then you need to play more often, because by repeating the game you'll be able to perfect your movements and feel for the ball.

Here's what you can do to improve your score:

Draw concentric circles 10, 25 and 50 cm in diameter and place a ball inside.

Stand 4 metres away and aim as close as you can, but make sure you don't hit him.

Practice from time to time and try to increase the distance each time you play.

Here's what you can do to improve your shooting:

Place a ball in the centre of a circle and stand 4 metres away.

Start pulling and repeat more often.

Make sure that the ball you are playing does not touch the ground outside the target circle.

Now you've got the keys to playing like a real pro, all you have to do is practise. Don't hesitate to treat yourself to this throwing game in any version.

With a little practice, you'll have no trouble putting 13-0 down on your opponent. Stay in control and impress your friends and family at your party.
